Crucifix c.1100-1125, perhaps from another part of the church
frontal core dated around 1135 by dendrochronology: frontal, retable, and arch c.1135-50
gilded copper sheets in repoussé relief with émail brun over oak core
Virgin and Child each separately cast bronze; Mary possible import

Latin inscription on arch: In this sign of the Cross is offered the healing of the tree. By this is healed man, to whom the apple brought shame. You see, man, what wounds I bear for your sake: Believe and doubt not. My death is your life. Without knowledge of his Creator, man is but a beast.
Latin inscription along top of frontal: I urge you to enter rest as you still have time, so it does not happen that, when the doors are closed, my ear will not hear you
Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world, the Lord shall say
