third tier: 14th-16th c. icons replaced by 1960 copies
fourth tier: 16th century; fifth small tier: Patriarchs, 17th c.
most wall paintings visible here P.A. Safonov and shop, late 19th century
Pantocrator in center dome destroyed 1893-1901 and 1941
major restorations 1429-58 (under Archbishop Evfimii II), 1528 (under Archbishop Makarii), 1893-1901 (V. Suslov), 1945-48, and 1963-64
