Historical Archive: Gold dinar of Caliph 'Abd al-Malik

Damascus, 696-697 (AH 77)
Arabic inscription, obverse: There is no God but God, He is alone, He has no associate. Muhammad is the Messenger of God.
He sent him with Guidance and the true religion that he might overcome all.
Arabic inscription, reverse: God is one, God is the eternal, He did not beget and He was not begotten.
In the name of God, this dinar was struck in the year 77.
