serpentine, gold, gems (some replaced before 1634; sapphire, emerald, garnet, pearls),
blue and green glass in some cloisons between gems
diameter 17 cm, plate only 11.5 cm (6.7, 4.5 inches)
serpentine plate first century BCE or CE, gold fish inlay possibly 4th-5th c.
metalwork court of Charles the Bald, mid to second half of ninth century
from the abbey of Saint-Denis, in the Louvre since 1793
restored and amethysts added 1828
