Historical Archive: Veroli Casket

rosette casket, Constantinople, mid to late tenth century
ivory and bone with traces of polychrome and gilding, over wood
height 11.5 cm, length 40.3 cm, width 15.5-16 cm (4.5 x 15.9 x 6.1-6.3 inches)
The lid is not hinged, but slides.
